Dr. Daniel Hartnett grew up primarily in the eastern St. Paul area and graduated from St. Paul Park High School with honors. He continued his pre-veterinary studies at St. Olaf College in Northfield. He then transferred to the University of Minnesota where he received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees with honors.
He is a life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association. He is a member of the Veterinary Phi Zeta Kappa national honor society. He is a board member of the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Society. He was a charter member of the Affiliated Emergency Clinics and the Veterinary Hospital Association. He is accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture. He is a long-standing member of the MVMA Academy of Veterinary Medical Practice and a James O. Hanson Scholar.
Dr. Hartnett opened the Long Lake Veterinary Clinic in 1971 as a general practice tending to most species in the western suburbs. As more farms disappeared, the practice focused entirely on small companion animals. He enjoyed building the solo practice into a five-doctor team. It's especially enjoyable helping new generations of clients and their families with their new pets over 50 years.

He has enjoyed numerous animal related trips, especially those in Africa. In his spare time, you may see him enjoying nature walks in the woods and parks (usually with a dog), biking around the neighborhoods, or playing music at some of the local events.
Dr. Cris Hartnett grew up in the western suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her family and numerous pets. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated with honors in May, 2014. She is also accredited by the USDA. Dr. Cris directed her studies in small animals (dogs and cats) and has a special interest in exotic pets (including rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, reptiles, birds, ferrets, etc.). Her professional small animal interests include surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, cardiology and ophthalmology. She also provides house call services for interested clients.
Dr. Cris received her Bachelor of Science from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she graduated cum laude, majored in Ecology, Evolution, and Organism Biology and minored in Studio Art (ceramics). Dr. Cris was president of the Zoological, Exotics, Avian and Wildlife Club, treasurer of the Shelter Medicine Club, and an active member of multiple other associations during veterinary school. She also completed the National Veterinary Business Management Association certificate program in 2013. Prior to earning her DVM degree, she worked as a veterinary technician and assistant for several hospitals in the Twin Cities and California. She is a member of the Phi Zeta Kappa (National Veterinary Honors Society), the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Cris has four rescued pets, including a black polydactyl cats (Stanley), a mixed breed dog (Hanna), one of her puppies (Wiegler) and a Ball Python (Walnut). She has a long history of caring for a multitude of other pets, including exotics, during her career as a veterinarian, veterinary technician, house-sitter and daughter of a veterinarian. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Cris enjoys time spent with her husband (John), daughters (Josephine and Madelyn), son (Emmett) and two stepdaughters (Cameron and Olivia). She has traveled extensively in South America, Australia and the United States and continues to explore her love for traveling by attending veterinary conferences all around the world and vacationing with her family. She also spends her free time doing yoga, biking, working with clay, hiking, skiing and camping.
Dr. Liz Hartnett grew up in the western suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has been in practice working with dogs and cats since 2014. Her scope of practice includes general health and preventative care, managing geriatric disease, nutritional consulting, wound management, surgery, behavioral consulting, and management of chronic pain/arthritis. She prefers to practice with a multi-modal integrative approach blending holistic modalities with conventional western medicine when appropriate.
Dr. Liz graduated from veterinary school in June of 2014. She completed her veterinary course studies at the University of Saint Matthews, finishing her veterinary clinical year at the University of Minnesota. Prior to her DVM degree, she studied at Bastyr University in Washington State acquiring two Masters of Science degrees in Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Acupuncture. During her undergraduate studies, she earned a BFA degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a minor in Environmental Science. She is also certified in massage therapy (Brenneke Institute), Thai massage (Chiang Mai TTC) and ESL (Cambridge University). She is a licensed diplomat in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, and is an active member in the AHVMA, AVMA, MVMA and multiple veterinary forums.
Dr. Liz's integrative approach blends conventional allopathic medicine with several holistic modalities. Her holistic scope includes Traditional Chinese Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, Nutritional Diet Therapy, and Microbiome management/testing. She believes in the individuality of each patient, and understands how to use a multi-modal approach in preventing disease/promoting healing.
Dr. Liz has enjoyed experiencing life in different places around the world. She chose to live abroad during most of her young adulthood, and has lived/worked/studied in England, Turkey, China, Thailand and the Cayman Islands. She is always open to learning new modalities of treatment and is accepting of different cultural perspectives/approaches in veterinary care. She has owned a variety of pets throughout her life including dogs, cats, turtles, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, snakes and iguanas. She currently has 1 dog, 3 cats, 6 chickens, and a multitude of fish.
Dr. Liz enjoys a healthy balance of work and family life. Her passions include watching/helping her children learn and grow, traveling, staying active, researching, gardening, cooking, laughing, spending time with girlfriends, magical date nights, stimulating conversations, finding creative outlets/new hobbies, and completing DIY home projects.
Dr. Katharine Llop grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Katharine grew up riding horses west of the metro and spent her first two years in practice as a large animal vet in New England and Minnesota before transitioning to small animal practice.
Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Katharine received a bachelor of science from the University of Minnesota and went on to work in grassland and marine conservation in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the Florida Keys. She continues to be interested in conservation and loves spending time in nature. Before returning to veterinary school, she worked in a microbiology lab at the University of Minnesota that studies antibiotic resistance and the microbiome.
Dr. Katharine has a Labrador Retriever (Otis), three cats (Chewie, Ewok, and Hermione), and two horses (Winnie and Big Cat). In her spare time she enjoys reading, baking, walking in nature, riding horses, and spending time with her husband (Alan) and daughter (Sage Mae). She likes to get up to Madeline Island and Lake Superior whenever she can.
Dr. Katharine loves her work at Long Lake Veterinary Clinic and particularly enjoys dermatology, surgery, and getting to know animals and their people.
MC is originally from Nebraska but has lived in Minnesota for most of her life. She used to work as a registered nurse before she began working for our veterinary clinic in 1993 as our office manager. She shares Clifford the Big Red Dog with Dr. Dan.
Judi grew up in this area and has lived in a few other places but was happy to move back to her hometown. She has worked at our clinic since 2016. She loves all of the cute puppies and kitties that walk through our doors every day.
Andrea has worked at our clinic since September of 2021. Before working at our clinic, her background was in childcare. She currently lives in Plymouth with her husband, 2 daughters, and their cat Amelia. Her favorite part of working at the clinic is seeing everyone's pets come back every year and with new pets. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, playing board games and card games, and traveling.
Megan has lived in the area for 7 years, she's originally from Iowa. She's been working at our clinic since July of 2019. Her favorite part of working at the clinic is being able to help people's pets every day however she can. She has two cats, Lil Butt and Trash Can, a fish named Roger, and a rescue leopard gecko named Nugget. She's currently in school to become a Vet Tech. In her free time, she studies for school, goes to the pottery studio, and hangs out with friends.
Catarina has lived in the Hopkins area her whole life. She began working at our clinic in March of 2022. She graduated from Hopkins High School in 2020. Her favorite part of working at our clinic is being able to help sick animals feel better. She has a dog named Layla, a cat named Buglander, and a ball python named Romeo.
Amy grew up in Elk River and went to college in West Virginia for drama. In her spare time she remodels houses, rides a motorcycle and golfs. She lives in Corcoran, in her current project, with 2 dwarf fainting goats named Pixie and Lil' Baby White. She started at our clinic in 2023.
Angie grew up and still lives in the west metro area. She's worked at our clinic since September 2023 and loves being surrounded by the clinic's many patients and the positive, hard-working staff. Her roommates include Vinny the cat and Addie the rabbit, and she enjoys time near the lake whenever possible.
Megan S has been employed at the clinic since June of 2018 and was raised in the surrounding area. The kind environment and sense of family she experiences at the clinic are her favorite aspects of working there. She is a pre-veterinary student at Gustavus Adolphus College pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in philosophy. She enjoys playing intramural futsal and volleyball, being outside, and gardening in her spare time, as well as helping out in her college greenhouse.
Harvey and Waffles are our two clinic cats. Harvey (Maine Coon Mix) is 12 and Waffles (Orange Tabby) is 2 years old. Harvey enjoys supervising everyone and Waffles enjoys eating everything in sight and escaping every chance he gets.
